18June 2013/Bhaktapur: Journalists from Nepal Television were misbehaved and vandalized their camera by the staff of Dairy (located at Kharipati, Bhaktapur), while the journalists were there to cover the news that a team from Department of Food Technology and Quality Control who were in the diary to check the milk quality on 17June 2013. Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) is seriously concerned about the incident.
The dairy staff manhandled the Journalist Subhadra Gautam and Camera Person Shiva Pangeni as well as vandalized their camera while they are covering the news.
FNJ strongly condemns the incident that journalists, who have taken of the responsibility to inform the general public were misbehaved while they were performing their duty. FNJ demands the government to respect the journalist’s constitutional right by legally punishing the guilty and create a free working atmosphere.
FNJ concerned over Journalist Arrest
21 June 2013/Kathmandu : Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) is seriously concerned over the arrest of journalist Susil Panta, President of our Gorkha FM Chapter and Editor of nepaliheadline.com, on 20 June 2013 over published news. The police claimed the arrest was made based on a complaint filed by Kanya Campus, Dillibazar over “news content” which was published on nepaliheadlines.com more than a month ago. Journalist Panta is currently at Metropolitan Police Office in Hanumandhoka, Kathmandu.
FNJ would like to draw the attention of the government and the concerned party that the Press Council Nepal is the authorized agency to address any complaints over the published or broadcasted news and not the police administration. FNJ condemns the incident of the journalist arrest when other alternative to seek legal means if one is not satisfied over published or broadcasted news was also available.
FNJ stands by the constitutional right of a journalist to report and states that the issue over published news should be solved by Press Council Nepal. FNJ demands the government to immediately release journalist Panta and halt demoralizing journalists by initiating similar arrests over news report.
