FNJ condemns Journalist Attack

Serious attention of Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has been drawn towards the attack upon member of FNJ Dhading Chapter, Thakur Gurung by an unidentified group on 7 June 2014.

Journalist Gurung was suddenly attacked by a group in Banasthali, Kathmandu, while he was attending the program organized by Dhading Former Student Society. He had sustained serious injury on his head, right hand and chest and currently undergoing treatment at Janamaitri Hospital in Kathmandu.

Attack on journalist, who have been taken of responsibility to inform the general public is an activity against the press freedom and freedom of expression. FNJ strongly condemns the incident of demoralizing the journalist by attack them without any cause. FNJ demands the government to immediately identified the people involved in the incident and punish them. Also demands the government to be more serious over journalist’s security and arrangements be made for medical treatment of the injured journalist.
