The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has received reports that a journalist and family members of another journalist have gone out of contact following a devastating flood in the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa.
Tekraj Thami, former Central Committee Member of the Federation of Nepali Journalists, who had travelled towards Tibet via Kerung for news gathering, has been out of contact since reaching Kerung, according to information received from his family.
Similarly, five members of journalist Nirajan Paudel’s family from Bidur–7, Nuwakot, have also gone out of contact. According to journalist Paudel, his father, mother, uncle, aunt and sister are among those who remain out of contact.
The Federation strongly urges the concerned authorities to immediately take the necessary initiatives and intensify efforts to locate and rescue them.
The disruption of electricity supply in the flood-affected areas has also resulted in interruptions to communication services, adversely affecting the operation of media outlets. Therefore, the Federation urges the concerned authorities to make necessary arrangements to restore and maintain regular communication services. The Federation also appeals to all concerned to support alternative arrangements necessary for the operation of the affected media outlets.
