The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has drawn its attention to the incident involving the filing of a complaint seeking criminal action against journalist Basudev Thapa of Radio Bhotewodar in Lamjung.

According to the FNJ Lamjung chapter, the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Lamjung initiated the process for criminal action through the Chief District Officer after journalist Thapa raised the issue that, due to a technical error, funds intended for the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund had been deposited into the RSP’s account.

The FNJ condemns the approach taken against the journalist instead of investigating the matter of the funds being deposited into another account and bringing the facts to light.

The FNJ urges the concerned authorities to conduct a necessary investigation into the incident, withdraw the allegations against the journalist, and respect press freedom.
