The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has been expressing its complete disagreement with the heavy reduction in the amount received by newspapers for advertisements under the Procedure on Publication of Public Welfare Advertisements for Print Media (First Amendment), 2083, issued by the Ministry of Information and Communications.
As the demand submitted to the Minister for Information and Communications on Bhadra 25 to repeal the said procedure has not been fulfilled, and the letter sent to the Advertising Board on Bhadra 21 requesting that it not submit bills for advertisements until the problem is resolved has also been ignored, a meeting held on Friday under the chairmanship of FNJ President Nirmala Sharma, with stakeholders, decided that if the demands are not fulfilled within three days, a nationwide movement will be launched from Monday, Asoj 5. This is hereby informed.
Based on the fact that the Office of the Auditor General has not identified any irregularity in public welfare advertisements, as well as the recommendation made by the Press Council Nepal regarding changes and increases in the amount of public welfare advertisements, the FNJ again submitted a letter of attention to the Minister on Friday to resolve the problem.
The FNJ expresses its belief that the problem will be resolved through talks and dialogue. Otherwise, in accordance with the decision of the meeting, the FNJ calls upon all committees under the FNJ and all concerned stakeholders to participate in the nationwide movement, which will be conducted in the first phase through various programs.
