The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has drawn its attention to the incident of mistreatment and threats directed at journalist Bakhtiyar Ali.
According to the FNJ Sarlahi branch, Dr. Guneshwar Jha, the operator of Susty Somya Health Care in Malangwa, called journalist Ali and used abusive language and threatened him, expressing dissatisfaction over a news report published on Loktantrakhabar.com.
The branch further stated that Facebook pages named "Sarlahi Media House" and "Daily News Update" were created to character assassinate journalist Ali, alongside issuing death threats against him. The Federation strongly condemns this incident.
If there is any disagreement with a published news report, a lawful solution should be sought. Resorting to abusing and threatening a journalist is an act against the freedom of the press.
The Federation urges the concerned authorities to conduct a fair investigation into the incident, take action against the culprits, and remain serious about the safety and security of journalists.
