The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has expressed serious concern over an incident where Parshu Karki of Mahalaxmi Municipality–7, Andrung, Dhankuta, used social media to abuse and threaten journalist Gopal Baraili.
According to the FNJ Dhankuta Branch, Karki threatened Baraili—who is also a former central committee member of the Federation—and his family over a news report published on Dhankutafm.com on June 18.
Instilling mental terror by threatening a journalist and their family, rather than seeking a legal and systematic remedy if dissatisfied with a news report, is an anti-press act and a social crime.
The Federation strongly condemns this act. Furthermore, it demands that the concerned authorities investigate the incident and take necessary legal action against the culprit.
