The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) welcomes the Supreme Court's decision to overturn the directive and decision made by the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers on Chaitra 18, 2082, which imposed an economic blockade on private and community media.

The journalism sector has found justice through the writ of certiorari issued on Tuesday, Asar 30, by a joint bench of Justices Saranga Subedi and Nripadhwoj Niroula, which quashed the discriminatory decision to allocate three-tier government advertisements and public notices exclusively to government-owned media.

The Federation had been continuously protesting for the past three months, demanding the revocation of the government's decision, which went against press freedom, freedom of expression, the right to information, federalism, and liberal economic policies.

The Federation's national conference, held in the capital on Chaitra 21, had resolved to launch Singha Durbar-centered protests and invite an international media mission if the government failed to scrap the decision within a week.

With the annulment of the government's decision, the Federation's movement has achieved its goal. The Federation expresses its gratitude to everyone who supported and joined the movement.

Furthermore, the Federation demands that the Government of Nepal implement the court's verdict in letter and spirit.
