The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has expressed serious concern over the threatening and abusive behavior directed at journalist Dipendra Gajurel by Ranjan Yadav, First Secretary at the Embassy of Nepal in Berlin, Germany.

According to the FNJ's Europe Branch, while seeking a response for a news report, Yadav threatened Gajurel, saying, "Do you know from where you are practicing journalism? From now on, I won't take your calls. If you write any further news, it will be difficult for you; I will backfire."

Seeking a reaction from the party connected to a news story is a fundamental duty of journalism. The FNJ concluded that exhibiting indecent and unseemly behavior toward a journalist performing their professional duties violates diplomatic decorum and constitutes a direct assault on press freedom. The Federation strongly condemns this attitude.

The Federation demands that the concerned authorities investigate the incident and take necessary legal action against the guilty party.
