The Federation of Nepali Journalists calls upon all media outlets in the country to express solidarity with the movement by leaving the editorial or other spaces black/blank on May 28 as per the decision.

Date: May 27, 2026

It is well known that the government, as a practice of controlling press freedom, has been monitoring journalists, creating fear, obstructing news collection, failing to secure the labor rights of working journalists, and imposing economic blockades.

In this context, under the pretext of budget cuts, the arbitrary and discriminatory decision made by the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers on March 31, 2026 to provide all levels of government information and advertisements exclusively to state-controlled media has created a critical situation for the sustainability of all community and private media in the country, as well as the professional security of working journalists.

Therefore, demanding the revocation of the said decision, the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has been conducting a phased, pressure-oriented campaign.

As part of this campaign, in accordance with the decision to leave the editorial or other spaces blank/black on May 28, 2026 , the Federation of Nepali Journalists calls upon all media outlets in the country to implement this and express solidarity with the movement.

The Federation expresses its gratitude to the media outlets that have supported and stood by the previous pressure campaigns.
